If you are into camping and the great outdoors, backpacking is a great way to do that while getting a great workout out of it. Backpacking is all about breathing deeply and moving those legs. It is great for working your lungs and your legs. It is definitely an aerobic working, and while carrying a backpack full of gear, you are builiding a lot of strength too! Backpacking can be a great way to workout while having fun and seeing the world too!
Backpacking is a fun way to burn calories while spending time with other people. Being in the great outdoors while backpacking also has positive benefits. Sunlight offers vitamins D and E, both important for immune functions as well as increased serotonin levels, which elevate mood. Nature has a restorative power and can help alleviate depression. Being out in nature is correlated with living longer and actual biochemical changes occur in response to trees, plants and animals. You can also enjoy the sights and sounds of nature while learning something about the nature environment.
Backpacking can also be called tramping, bushwalking or trekking. It involves carrying one's supplies and gear in a bag that is strapped onto the back. Backpacking can burn several hundred calories per hour. For example, the backpacking activity burns approximately 460 calories per hour for an average, 145-pound person.
