Don't Skip A Meal!

When you skip meals, your body goes into storage mode rather than burning mode.

That's the primary reason deprivation diets don't work.

Your body panics about going into a famine, so it slows metabolism (your body's thermostat, the rate at which you burn off extra fat) into emergency storing mode rather than a steady rate of burning.

Breakfast eaters are on average thinner than those who skip breakfast because they keep their metabolism genes turned on. This means that calories are more likely to be burned off before they can turn into fat.

For some reason a lot of people who struggle with their weight actually don't eat breakfast. I noticed on The Biggest Loser show on NBC, a lot of the contestants said they never ate breakfast before they got to the ranch. I found that interesting.

Studies have shown that people who eat breakfast are less likely to be overweight. It is important to never skip a meal, but breakfast is the most important meal to never skip! At least that's what I have found out through my research.

Another reason to eat breakfast is that your body will pull nutrients from your body whereever it can get it from. If you skip a meal your body cannot pull the nutrients from your food in your stomach so it goes to the next easiest place to get it from... your lean muscle mass. The body will actually break down your muscles before your fat. You will then lose muscle mass and in doing so lower your ability to lose weight because the more muscle mass you have, the more fat you will burn to preserve it. So to make a short story long:

Eat Breakfast!

When I was a painter and used to drive everyone from the office to the job I used to get in trouble all the time for getting there a half-hour later than the boss when he went out to the job to check up on me after I left.

The only thing worse than listening to your boss when he's pissed off is listening to a bunch of guys cry about being hungry all morning.

We always got more done when everyone ate breakfast and a lot of the guys we had would get out of bed when they heard us outside honking the horn in the morning.

There you go! There's another good reason to make sure you eat breakfast... you are more productive!

400 - 500 Calories at Breakfast

Breakfast is the time to eat 1/4 (one fourth) to 1/3 (one third) of your daily calories, enough to tell your body it's not starving and to energize you for the day. Try:

1 cup of oatbran flakes cereal with 1 cup skim milk
1 banana
1 cup orange juice

Is there ever a bad time to eat bananas, other than when there's a gorilla standing behind you ?

They seem like the perfect snack or tide-you-over.

Bananas are a pretty good snack to eat at anytime. I've noticed that they are quite filling too! They definitely can help your hungry stomach if you need something to tide you over.

I don't like to eat them on a hot day... or right before I work out... just like I don't like to drink milk right before the workout either... gives me a clogged up feeling in my throat

Why it goes to storage mode? Are you sure?

Starvation diets DO do this. The body (being the clever machine that it is) thinks that food is in short supply, and slows the metabolism accordingly.

So what is starvation diets?

But you freely can skip your meals without fear of starvation mode (of course if you are already underweight you should not skip meals). It's a common myth that if dont eat every 3 hour you body goes starvation. You can go easily 1 - 2 days per week with 24 hour without any calories. Or you can skip all you breakfast and take 16 hour fasting every day and your body Not goes starvation mode.

Skipping breakfast on a consistent basis is not good for your body. After sleeping all night and not eating during that time, you need fuel when you wake up to start the day. If you don't eat and have any fresh fuel (food), your body will go into starvation mode... meaning it will try and hang on to the fat that you have stored on your body because it thinks you are not getting the food you are supposed to be getting. You don't need to eat every 3 hours, and skipping lunch every now and then probably won't confuse your body, but breakfast is a very important meal not to skip.
