Syrup-Based Drinks and Pancreatic Cancer

The risk of developing pancreatic cancer is related in part to the amount of sugar in the diet. Studies show that people who drink fizzy or syrup-based drinks twice a day or more run a 90 percent higher risk of getting cancer of the pancreas than those who never drink them.

What are some examples of syrup based drinks? I guess I'm not sure what kind of drinks those are. Are soda pops syrup based?

Maybe syrup based drinks are a "sugary syrup??" added to the drink ... I'm not sure. I tried to look it up online, and came up with no results that made sense to this topic.

My guess is syrup based is referring to high fructose corn syrup, which seems to be the base of many fizzy drinks. I think this syrup is mixed with all the drink's other flavours, then carbonated water is added.

This isn't a statement of fact, just that I know coca cola (amongst many others) uses the stuff.

On a related note- when I was in Canada, visiting my cousin, I got the taste for Mountain Dew. It's one of the few fizzy drinks that I really like the taste of. You can't get it here. It was marketed for a while, but was withdrawn due to poor sales.

I'm not a big fizzy drink fan anyway, so wouldn't drink much of the stuff, but it would be nice if now and then I could find a can! There are a couple of sites on the net that import it, as well as other US brands, but they really know how to charge! One day I'll order a Hershey bar, just to try it - another thing you can't get here!

That makes sense... I was thinking drinks that contain corn syrup.

The U.S. has Mountain Dew. I was surprised to hear that they don't have it in England. I used to drink it when I was a kid. I used to drink all kinds of soda pops when I was a kid, but I very rarely drink soda these days. I don't really care for the carbonation and water usually just sounds so much more thirst quenching to me.
