But doesn't your body's metabolism slow down when you are asleep? Is there something that boosts that at night?

I read something not so long ago that dispelled the myth about late night eating making you fat. It said the time the calories were consumed wasn't important in the least. It may have been in an old copy of New Scientist, but I'm not sure.

They did explain the science behind it, but I'll be damned if I can remember it now...

I don't know what to believe... I've read tons of things that say not to eat right before you go to bed and especially carbohydrates. But then it makes sense that calories are calories and it shouldn't matter when you eat them. But then I think about how if I eat calories earlier in the day, I have the rest of the day to burn them off. When I eat closer to bedtime, there is not much else I do before I go to bed and therefore not burning those calories off...

I think you will burn them off, if you eat the amount of calories you need for that day. Go over your calorie intake, then yeah, you won't burn the excess off before bedtime. There are things you do before bedtime... just being alive burns calories, but remember, the excess calories are what we are talking about that matters.
