Fake car seller attacks mother and her son ... A man who advertised a car for sale hits two hopeful buyers with a hammer.

A mother and her son came from Bellevue, Washington, to Tacoma, Washington, to buy a car they found on Craigslist and were attacked Monday night by a man with a hammer, police said Tuesday.

The mother and son found a 2001 Honda Accord on the classified advertising Web site and negotiated to buy it for 3600 hundred dollars. They agreed to meet the seller about 10 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1700 block of South 84th Street.

Whey they arrived, they met and shook hands with a man they believed was the seller. Then the man pulled out a hammer.

He hit the 27 year old son twice and the mother, who is in her 50's, once in the head.

The son ran, with the attacker following. Meanwhile, the mother hid. The son lost the attacker and returned to the parking lot to find his mother. Police were called, and the mother and the son where taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The attacker didn't take anything from the people who were attacked, but officers found a hammer that police believe he used.

Detectives are investigating the incident as an aggravated assault.

The attacker was described as a black man, 18 to 20 years old and 5 feet 8 inches tall. He wore dark baggy clothing.

Man Charged in Craigslist Killing

Philip Markoff, a handsome, clean-cut, 23 year old, second-year medical student at Boston University, was planning a lavish, beachfront wedding this summer to a beautiful woman, but authorities say his computer and surveillance video paint a picture of a suspected serial criminal who targeted women offering massage services through Craigslist. Now he is accused of killing one and suspected of robbing and tying up another. Police say there could be more victims.

Markoff is accused in the death of 26 year old Julissa Brisman of New York City, who was found dead April 14 in a Boston hotel after being bashed in the head and shot three times at close range, including once through the heart. Julissa Brisman was an aspiring model and actress who had advertised massage services on Craigslist.

Police say they found a semiautomatic weapon, duct tape and restraints in the upscale apartment he shared with his fiancee in Quincy, about 10 miles south of Boston.

Markoff appeared in court Tuesday on charges including murder, kidnapping and armed robbery.
