I've never been anything but a burden to my father so on Fathers Day I make sure I don't bug him with cards, gifts, or phone calls. I finally got him to return the favor and quit sending cards on holidays a year or two ago.

This is probably a mean thing to say, but the last year or so without having any contact with him has probably been the least stressful I've ever had. No more wondering what I did wrong this time.

In any event, if you're father isn't one of those holidads who is more like a distant uncle than a father, make sure to let him know you appreciate it, even if it's a few days late. ;)

Wow, that is a sad story, and it makes me angry. I agree with your judgement about not having any contact with him...

Good for you!! No parent has the right to treat their children that way. They should be locked up forever!! Or at least kicked in the butt a few 10 or 20 times!! I know a few people myself who didn't deserve to have any kids.

Locked up, nah. They're at least productive members of society a lot of times, just put the kids in a better environment where they aren't treated like baggage.
As for kicked in the butt, I have a $1,000 bond receipt that says that's not as good of an idea as it sounds.

I've found that a used beaten up couch makes a great stress relief... just avoid the hard wood frame portion... Puberty caused a lot of growing pains for both me and my dad... I love him, but when I hit 16, "Because I said so," didn't fly as much with me. Needless to say learning to respect authority during that time of a boys life is always tough. That poor couch never deserved all of the abuse it received!
