As I noted in my tomato plant thread I've moved to bell peppers since it's getting cooler outside. I promised photos when the seeds sprouted, unfortunately they never did. I'm fairly sure the seeds I used had been sitting in my kitchen junk drawer for too long.

So, two days ago I split the seed pod of a bell pepper I was cooking with into 3 chunks and buried them in my 5 gallon bucket. I ended up getting an older junk bucket this time around and I cut some drainage holes in it this time. When (if?) they sprout, I'll post some photos. :)

That would be cool if you were to get some bell peppers to sprout!

I bet if you lived in a house with a big backyard you'd probably have a big garden full of fruits and vegetables, huh? I live in a townhouse right now with hardly a backyard, but I think when we move into a real house with a backyard, we are going to try to grow our own garden!

Maybe in another 20-30 years when I'm 50-60. I just want to get the hang of things with a plant or two at a time for now.

My father was a landscaper / deck-builder when I was a kid and while we did have a garden once or twice, most of the time our whole back yard was full of landscape type plants. In the garden we did have I don't remember ever having tomatoes or peppers. Just things like watermelon, corn, and spinach or cabbage. There was an avocado tree across the alley from us and an orange tree by our back door.

Now my grandparents on the other hand, had all sorts of stuff in their yard. Starting with their driveway and working around the house the things I can remember are pineapple, carambola (star fruit), pecans, papaya, razzberries, lychee, green grapes, grapefruit, oranges. I think something was ripening during just about every part of the year there, they had a huge yard on a corner lot that must have been the size of 4 of todays lots.
