I filled up my car today- the monstrous price tag got me thinking about gas/petrol prices.

I've heard rumblings from the US at times that fuel is getting pricey on that side of the pond. I've just had a look here: http://www.eia.doe.gov/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/wrgp/mogas_home_page.html and have come to the conclusion that you're very very fortunate.

Next time you think you're paying too much, consider this - I converted litres to US gallons and then worked out the cost and converted it. I paid $7.04 for every gallon. Ouch.

Can someone put some in an envelope and mail it to me?

Oh my gosh! $7.04!!! I thought gas prices were high over here when they were at $4.00 something a gallon a year or two ago! I couldn't imagine having to pay over 7 dollars a gallon!

I don't think flammable items are allowed to be mailed otherwise, I'd put some in an envelope for ya! ;)

The big problem here is that the Government puts HUGE amounts of tax on fuel - the profit margin for the retailer is a very small percentage - and that it goes up based on the 'fuel escalator', which bumps up the price with inflation.

Whenever there's an increase in oil prices, the price at the forecourt goes up, but it never seems to drop with a corresponding decrease!

I could get it a couple of pence cheaper from a station in the middle of town, but but the two stations that are on my way to work are pretty similar, price-wise, and if I go out of my way to get fuel, I'll burn the difference getting there.

Hey, us Brits don't complain about 'rip-off Britain' for nothing! :x
