This accident happened about 5-10 minutes down the road from me this morning and I just now found out what happened.

Apparently an unidentified pedestrian got hit by a Chevy Avalanche driven by a Nurse on her way to work this morning. Amazingly enough, there was a Doctor just a few seconds behind the nurse and the Doctor rushed over to help her until Paramedics arrived.

I guess there's no better person to get hit by than a nurse. Though, the area it happened has a lot of homeless people wandering the streets and I wouldn't be surprised if the pedestrian actually meant to get hit by the car.

How fast is the speed limit on that road? How fast was the nurse driver driving?

I was hit by a car when I was a child. The car was going 45 mph before it slammed on its brakes after it saw this idiot child (me) running across the street trying to beat her father home from work. This idiot child didn't realize that her father was stopped in front of the house waiting to turn left because there was a car coming! So this child ran behind her dad's car across the street to get one of her legs hit by the car.

Yup, that idiot child was me. Amazingly I didn't break anything and I didn't even go to the hospital after the car hit me. I can't even remember which leg it was that the car hit. I was very lucky. One second sooner and the car could have slammed into my entire body rather than just one of my legs. There were skid marks about a 100 feet long on the road from the car trying to stop from hitting me. My mom made me apologize to the lady driving the car for running out in front of her.

I'm not sure what the speed limit is, but guessing by the size of the road (technically it's State Road 60), the amount of traffic, and how fast I've driven down it in the past, I'd say it's 40-50. It's a main drag road through Clearwater. It connects Tampa to Clearwater Beach.

I don't know how fast she was going. None of the local news results from Google say anything about it either.

I was on a bike in Treasure Island as a teenager and got hit by a car. I was lucky in a way. The car was already stopped at a stop sign and I crossed the street in front of them. I was far enough in front of them that they just ran over the back tire and not me when they tried to jet out into a break in traffic.

It was their fault, there was no reason they shouldn't have seen me and they would have seen me if they hadn't been more concerned with finding a break in traffic than they were about what was going on around them. But they just yelled "idiot" out the window and drove off. I guess they figured that since I was on my feet they didn't need to see if I was ok.

It took me sooooo long to drag my friends bike with the smashed back end home after that. I just looked and it's about a 5 mile walk, which takes an hour and a half to two hours without having to drag a disabled bike the whole way.

I've not been hit by a car since then though. I go out of my way to cross the street behind the lead car now. Well, most of the time.
How about you ?

I've been hit by a car since.. well this time while on my bike... so my bike got hit -- similar to your story. The people that messed up your bike tire should have had to fix that! I can't believe they yelled at you and then drove off.

I was hit while on my bike when I was living in the Bay Area, California and working at Stanford University. I was living in San Jose, so my commute consisted of driving my car to the train station and taking my bike on the train to ride my bike from the train station to Stanford.

Well, one day on my way home from my work to the train station I was riding my bike on the sidewalk (when I guess I probably shouldn't have been). At certain parts of the sidewalk there are alley roads perpendicular to the sidewalk... I was on my bike approaching the alley way at which the sidewalk continues on the other side of the alley opening and this car just shot out of the alley without paying attention to the sidewalk area. I'm not sure who was actually at fault here, but all I know is once the car started to hit my bike, I jumped off and continued to watch the car run my tire over! I was confused why they didn't stop once they felt the initial crunch? My foot got close to the moving car tire, but I managed to pull it away. After the old man that was driving realized he hit something, he finally got out of the car with his wife and talked to me. They made sure I was okay, but then they didn't want to pay to get my bike fixed. I told them they just hit a pedestrian and told them they better fix my bike for me. So they agreed, and we exchanged numbers and then they took my bike away. Later I get a phone call of them wanting me to pay half of the bill. I said no and after a lot of arguing back and forth they finally fixed my bike and I didn't have to pay a cent.

So that's my second hit by a car story. I have one more similar story, except this time I was the person behind the wheel.

It's a good thing they fixed your bike for you. I wish I would have thought to at least get their tag number when I was hit. I remember jumping into the air when I realized the car started moving too.

I've only ever been the driver in one accident and that was in a pickup truck on a winding road in the rain where my backend broke lose and I over-corrected into a telephone pole. The truck usually had a water tank in the back with about 500 gallons of water in it, but I took it home for the weekend without the tank in the back so the brakes were a little touchy in the back. It's definitely much harder to correct the vehicle while going around a curve in the rain. I slid sideways through a straight intersection in the rain once and that was a piece of cake.

I remember being in the back seat of a Bronco (OJ Simpson style) in the rain once and telling the guy driving to slow down probably 100 times. Of course he ends up sliding into the back of a box truck and pretty much totals the front end of his bronco while the box truck didn't have a scratch on it. On the bright side I knew he was going to crash sooner or later so I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and the only one in the truck that didn't get banged up.

I was in the passenger seat of a mini-van once at night in the outskirts of the city where it's darker than it is here in the city. The street light at this corner wasn't very bright and there wasn't much pedestrian or car traffic on any of these roads. Small neighborhood. Anyway, this is going to sound like a bad joke, but the driver almost ran over a black guy that was right in front of him as he turned to make a right because he didn't see him. I mean he was right in front of him too, I saw the guy, and that's probably the only reason the guy isn't a pancake now. It's kinda surreal to be watching someone cross the street right in front of you and then the vehicle starts moving. It's like a bad dream and all you can do is yell.
