How many times per week do you eat out?: Eating Out

I heard somewhere that the average American eats out 4 times per week. I curious as to how much you eat out per week? I was eating out probably 4 times a week a few months ago, but the economy has forced me to stay in and start cooking more. It's actually made what I've been eating more healthy and I kinda like making dishes at home now!

So, how many times per week do you eat out? Have you noticed any cut backs on eating out since the economy has been going downhill? If so, do you notice any healthier choices in what you have been eating?

I've been eating out about 5 times per week! I know, I need to cut back. They are talking about lay offs at my job, so if I am one of them, I'll probably be learning how to save money and stay home and cook more often!

My wife is doing more of the cooking now that we are doing weight watchers. It is so tough to resist the urges to go out to eat. The signs and advertising are everywhere! I am still struggling especially on the weekends with this. Right now it is about 2-3 times per week.

Read the article I posted in the food section about the biggest loser. It is very good!

I like to cook, but I also like to go out to eat. With the economy the way it is, I feel the crunch to eat at the house becuase it is so much cheaper. If I only knew hot to make General Tso's chicken, I wouldn't need to go out to eat!

A few years ago there was only 1-2 days a week where I didn't eat out at least once, a lot of times it was 2+ times a day.
Lately I eat out maybe once a week.

General Tso's chicken/beef is awesome, depending on where I get it.
There's a couple of places that I regret getting it from the next morning...

My husband and I eat out only on the weekends. Sometimes on Friday nights, usually on Saturday nights (and sometimes something like Subway for lunch), and Sunday afternoons (occasionally Sunday nights). But during the week, we always eat at home, and we always take our lunch to work rather than going to the drive thru. It's a pretty fair trade, I'd say.

But probably in the next week or two, we'll be changing how much we eat out. Right now, my in laws have been living with us (for the last four months), so eating out on the weekends is a way for the two of us to spend a nice meal with just us, rather than all four of us. During the week, my mother in law cooks dinner (since the other three of us are at work all day). But they're probably moving out soon, so I suspect that we'll probably eat at home more on the weekends too, because we won't feel the need to get out of the house so much...

General Tso's chicken definitely depends on where you get it. Some restaurants make it delicious, but others mess it up!

Taking your lunch to work is a good idea. It is better for you and it saves you money!

You can say that again. I wasted a ton of money eating out when I worked construction.

There was two reasons I never brought my lunch to work with me,
1) I sucked at packing it and would always end up with a soggy sammich or funky smelling something else.
2) Everyone else was going out for lunch and I didn't want to be "that guy".
