There's a Mongolian Grill across the street from me that I get lunch from now and then.
One of their selling points is that it's healthy and I'm wondering if that's something normally found at a Mongolian Grill or if it's just this particular places gimmick.

It's one of those places that you fill a bowl full of vegetables and meat, then ladle thin seemingly water-based sauces on top of and hand to a cook who grills it right there in front of you.

It sure tastes good, I know that much. :D

I guess it depends on the restaurant and how much oil they use on their grill to keep the food from burning on it.
For the most part, I believe Mongolian food is a pretty healthy choice, if you take away the oil on the grill which is filled with a lot of fat. Maybe the restaurant by you uses a different kind of less fattening oil or not as much? I wonder if you could ask them about the oil that they use?

I know most Mongolian Grills are usually all you can eat, so as long as you have a healthy portion and don't eat too much, it can be a pretty healthy place to eat at. Most of the times you get to select from fresh meat and vegetable bars, which is good.

I'll have to ask about the oil they use on the grill next time I go over there. Sesame oil is one of the sauces this place reccomends adding to your bowl before they grill it, the other sauces all appear to be thin and water-based though.

Sesame oil is actually considered to be a healthy oil. There are oils that contain unsaturated fat, which is something that every diet needs, and sesame oil is one of those. Flaxseed, sesame, walnut, peanut and grapeseed oils are all derived from plants, so they are a healthy way to replace the unhealthy fats in your diet. The key is not to consume too much of them because they are high in calories. Sesame oil also contains vitamin E, which helps lower cholesterol. And it contains magnesium, copper, calcium, iron and vitamin B6.

I really love to watch them cook it. You know that is something I wish we could see in every restaurant. We might stop eating out so much if we see the ingredients they use in their food! I think there are plenty far worse foods you could eat than these types of grills. Read the article on the Biggest Loser - biggest-loser-article-that-found-interesting-t198.html

Thanks again Junior for the article... I love the information I got out of it!

Here's the one across the street from me.

I still haven't gotten around to asking them what kind of oil they use.

Is it laziness or do you really just not want to find out and ruin a good food option close by?!?

I'm not used to asking about things like that, so they slip my mind very easily.
