Whether you want to lose weight or increase your endurance, it's important to tailor your workout to fit your goals. Repeatedly failing to stick to your goal might mean that your goal was out of reach in the first place. Maybe you need to make your goal more simple. Maybe you need to make your goals more realistic. Maybe you need to write down your goals so you help convince yourself that you want to achieve them. Research has show that when you write things down and put it in a place that you see it everyday, it helps you achieve those things better than if you didn't write them down.

Here is a list of some common fitness goals and some ideas of how to reach them:
  • Losing Fat - Fat loss occurs when you burn more calories than you eat. Keep track of your calories. Figure out how many calories you should consume per day, and tried to burn at least 500 calories per day.
  • Gaining Muscle -Muscle gain occurs when you apply heavy strength training. This requires a heavy commitment to see results.
  • Improving Health - The possibilities are endless to try and improve your health. Start with drinking water instead of soda pop, or your other favorite non healthy drink. Water is free and good for you!
  • Sports Conditioning - To get better at your favorite sport, you have to actually practice that sport. Be committed and remember that practice make perfect!

These are good common goals. I think I fit in the Improving Health category and I know I should stop drinking soda pop at dinners and work on drinking water more. There are other things I can do to help improve my health too. For starters, I should stop going out to eat as much and start cooking at home more. This will also save me some money!!

I think that goal setting is important too!

Big Hairy Audacious Goals shouldn't be left out because they seem unrealistic... make those goals as your big goals, but also make step by step goals that you can achieve along the way to monitor your progress to your BHAG! I think one of the places where I have failed in the past was not holding me accountable to the journey to the big goal. I know I can lose 50lbs. and I know it is a big goal... but how am I going to get there... creating the small steps along the way, is key... But I almost would encourage you to set a BHAG before starting!

Mine was losing 50lbs. and that was set on Sept. 2006. It is now Jan '09, I have lost 80lbs.

Set the small steps and follow them. Make a game plan on how you are going to get to your BHAG and beyond!

I know what big and hairy means. I am big and hairy! I'm going to have to look up what Audacious means though.

I'm going to have to look up what Audacious means too, unless Y's Guy would be so kind as to explain it to us! :)

Okay, as long as you're still a beef-eater, you're still Texan in my book!

Hi Dear Friends,
It doesn’t have to be a New Year's resolution for one to set goals pertaining to their health and fitness. While participating in regular exercise, losing weight, and eating right are much easier said than done, it is suggested that setting goals in this department should become a gradual process.

1)Shed Pounds: Every New Years' Eve, millions of people struggle with the goals they have set to lose weight. Whether it is 5, 10, or 50 pounds, losing weight has always been a popular goal high up on the list of many objectives in life. Unfortunately, so many people fail despite all of the diet fads, fat-free snacks, and weight-loss programs. In the end, self-improvement and motivation are some of the key factors that drive people towards weight loss success.

2)Push Yourself: When it comes to health and fitness goals, it is important to keep pushing forward and try new things that aim to boost your overall health. You never want to miss out on the experiences that helps shape a life, tests character, or pushes an individual to learn more about themselves. You never know how high you'll climb a mountain unless you take the time to try. Achievement is a great way to improve the way you view your life and create future goals. A few examples on pushing yourself to succeed in your weight loss, health, and fitness goals is to attempt a demanding workout plan (such as advanced Taebo), increase the number of miles you walk or run, take up an advanced swimming class, join local sporting competitions, ride your bike to work or the store, and eliminate junk food for a month.
