Reason to Sweat

Even fat that you don't see can kill you:

If your over weight and diabetic, doctors say, you probably have a fatty liver, which raises your risk of ills that go beyond that organ, including heart disease.

But a recent study found that moderate biking, walking, or running three times a week, plus resistance training, trimmed fat in volunteers' livers by as much as 40 percent.

"It's an added reason to exercise," says Kerry Stewart, EdD, an exercise physiologist at Johns Hopkins University.

I love sweating. But yes, I need to shower right after wards! I don't like to sit around in my sweat for long, and I definitely can't sit around in sweaty clothes!

I feel like if I am going to workout I've got to get a good sweat in order to feel like I've accomplished anything. I've heard of people who don't like to sweat or need to exercise in front of a fan to limit the sweating during their workouts, however. That just doesn't work well for me. I'm not sure why.

On a different note about sweating... I remember reading a while back something about people who are in better shape sweat more. I'm not sure if that is true for everyone, but I think it is true for me. I've noticed when I am not in as good of shape, it takes me longer to start sweating. On the other hand, when I am in really good shape, I notice that I start sweating right away and by the time I am done, I've sweated a ton!

I am one of those people who hate to sweat!! I really really hate it!!! But... I have also heard, too, that sweating is good for a person.

But I am confused too, because I hardly ever sweat now being close to my proper weight, compared to when I was like 50 pounds over weight, I could hardly do much of anything without sweat dripping off my forehead into my eyes.

I can mow the lawn now on a hot day and not sweat at all. But when I was overweight, I would have to have something to wipe the sweat off me so it wouldn't sting my eyes. The sweat was literally running off my forehead like a faucet, I am not kidding ya!! I wonder how come.

Yeah, I have no idea. Maybe it depends on the person. Who knows! I don't sweat at all during normal day to day living... it's only if I start a workout and my body knows I am going in "workout mode."

I am definitely not saying your old Ziggy, but as we become more chronologically gifted our bodies do not register heat as much. It is called homeostasis, when our body sweats when we need to cool down. The older you get the less the body recognizes the need for sweat. Maybe it has more to do with that than the weight issue. In either case make sure you drink plenty of water... It could also be that you had to work twice as hard to mow the lawn and it pooped your body out, so you were never in super bad shape, where you couldn't do enough exercise to sweat. I bet you could make yourself sweat a lot more now than when you were heavier... if you wanted to. It is not neccessarily that you sweat more when you are in shape... it is that you can sweat more when you are in shape... whether you to or not is up to you! In either case drink more water!

I'm no chemist, but based on the quick reading I did on Fat, Gylcerol, Glucose, and noticing how many Hydrogen & Oxygen atoms are involved in all of them I'm guessing there's a water (H2O) byproduct in those conversion processes involved with burning fat for energy somewhere.

I know what you mean. When I painted tile roofs there would be times I just kinda sprayed coating blindly because between the sweat pouring into my eyes and stinging then the sun reflecting off of the white coating I'd already sprayed I really couldn't see anything. With one arm holding a spray gun and the other holding an airless sprayer hose up off of the wet coating there's no hands left for a towel. :(

They are called sweat bands... aren't they? Or head bands too.

It was only when I didn't have an extra clean shirt and my sunglasses that it was a problem.
On really hot days we would take these off now and then and throw them down to the ground man to soak with the water hose. :D

What a clever idea! So, is that you in there? The sunglasses look familiar.

Yeah it seemed easier to take a quick photo than it was to describe the mask.

When I started painting we worked with a lot of oil-based primers which were worth throwing a $2-3 shirt away every day to keep out of your hair. Cheap shirts were thicker, and cheaper than head socks. The only feeling worse than stinging sweat in your eyes, is stinging mineral spirits in your eyes while trying to get oil-based paint out of your hair or from around your face.
My boss was a son-of-a-beach about how he got me to do things like cover up and keep my feet dry, it always involved me being in pain for a couple of days, but he never had to teach me more than once.

Yep, experience is the best teacher, that's for sure. The neighbors where I used to live thought I was weird anyway ... mowing my lawn every 3 days ... but with that ninja mask outfit on my head to keep the sweat out of my eyes, that would have totally confirmed it. lol
