I woke at 4.20am on thursday morning (call of nature- getting old, you know) and was feeling feeling fine. I went back to bed for an hour until my alarm went off and woke up in considerable pain.

In that final hour of sleep, I had clearly slept in an odd way, and a muscle or something in my neck (in the area of the left hand side of the trapezius if you want a more exact location) had spasmed, or been strained somehow. I couldn't turn my head without pain, or lift it to look up . Work wasn't pleasant. When I got home, I applied some heat, and that really helped.

By yesterday it was feeling better, though still tender, and I was careful not to do anything at work to aggravate it. Today it's still sore, but going away nicely, but all I've managed to do over the past couple of days, exercise-wise at least, is hop on the exercise bike for a bit. I'd intended to start running thursday night now the weather is better, but that went down the pan.

I've only put this on here as an example of how sometimes, despite how well you look after yourself, the body has a mind of its own and occasionally bites you on the bum! :haha:

Ow ow ow is right!! I know exactly what you mean. And as we get older, we really gotta watch it.

Awhile back I opened the truck door, and felt a slight :ouch: ... then it was ok. But by that night, I couldn't move my left arm at all. The pain was sooooo unbearable... all I did for 3 days was cry :tears: and pray, it hurt so bad. Then it quit hurting, just like that.

Another time my left foot just decided to quit working. I don't remember doing anything to it, but it hurt soooooo bad I had to crawl on the floor until my sis brought over some crutches for me. After a couple days, the pain was gone, never to return. Weird stuff happens, I guess!!

Glad you are feeling better!!

Toady, it's almost gone entirely- it hurts only at the limits of movement.

It's not the first time this has happened either- about twenty years ago I woke up like this- only about ten times worse- the muscles had spasmed so much that my left shoulder was a couple of inches lower than my right, and I was walking like Quasimodo - I took a couple of days off work, and it sorted itself out as if it had never happened. To say it hurt is an understatement.

I also woke up one morning with my right arm in agony - I had seemingly been hanging it out of the bed, palm up and with the elbow over the edge. The weight of my my forearm against the joint over time caused me problems to say the least - the joint swelled up like a balloon and it hurt like all hell.

Nothing like a sleeping injury!

OMGosh both sounds soooo painful. Did you ever go to the doctor to see why that happened? You've sure had your fair share of sleeping injuries! I've had a few... couldn't move my head side to side for a few days...or woke up with a terrific lower back ache, but nothing like yours!!

Sleeping injuries are the worst! I hate it when I wake up on I can't turn my head one direction. This doesn't happen that frequently but it has happened a lot! I must sleep wrong when this happens or something. It is usually a sharp pain in my neck when I try to turn my head even the slightest distance to the direction that it hurts. So annoying. Then after 2-5 days it is usually better.

I have something that is just as back as a sleeping injury... I have thrown my back out twice now... once from coughing and once from sneezing while I was sick! Talk about kicking a guy while he's down! That is the worst... I have had a crick in my neck after sleepng wrong... but at least when you wake up and realize you can't turn your head, you're not sick too!
