Post subject: When is the best time to work out?

Drawing from my experience from the YMCA, I think a consistent time of day is important to work out.

I have done some research and found that there have been studies done that say people who work out in the morning before work are the most consistent, second place comes to those who work out right after work is over, third are people who work out on their lunch hour and last place come to those who workout at night.

I have seen a lot of people succeed at all different times. I think it is important to pick a time that works best for you and work out consistently during that time. Get in the habit of exercising and it will help on the days you feel unmotivated. People resist change so if you make exercise a constant in your life you will eventually resist the urge to not exercise.

I am not a morning exerciser, my consistent time for exercise is at 4:00 pm. First, find a time, second stick with that time, third own that time... make it a priority and try to schedule things around your time that way you can say that you have an exercise time!

What if you don't know? How do you find out? What is a good amount of time to know if it works for you or not?

If you don't know, you'll just have to try some different time periods out to see which time works best for you. Do you feel more energetic in the mornings or evenings?

3 weeks is usually a good time frame... but again work with what works for you... if you're not a morning person but you want to try to see if morning workouts are best for you and within the first week you don't get out of bed... don't wait 2 more weeks to determine mornings aren't good for you! ;)

The goal of this should be which one do you least skip... if you make every exercise appointment during 2 different time slots, then see which one you were able to do the most, feel the best or works best with your schedule!

Consistency is one of the most important accountability tools in being successful in starting workouts. You can block it in your schedule and make it a part of your normal rountine which makes it less likely to be skipped!!!

I have never been a morning person so I won't even try that one. About 3 weeks, that is good to know. Thank you.

Night time has seemed the best for me. I tried to workout during lunch once over the holidays but there is no way I would have enough time to change clothes for work and have more than 15 minutes!

It looks like night time is winning out.

I understand that people have their certain set times that they like to workout at every day or whenever they workout, but I have found that when I change it up, my body loves it! If I workout some days in the mornings, and other days in the evenings, my body doesn't get used to the one time of day and makes it more responsive to my workouts!

That is great Marie... if you are a highly motivated person, I guess it doesn't matter what time you workout... in fact it might be better to switch it up as you suggest. I just know that it is better for people to maintain a workout routine if they make it just that... a routine. I used to workout once in a blue moon, whenever the mood hit... It wasn't until I made myself exercise everyday at a certain time that I started seeing major results... Picking the time that best fits with you can help you be successful if you have trouble being a regular exerciser. If you don't have that problem by all means... switch it up!!!
