Post subject: Can't be too careful with insect foggers

I fogged my apartment with bug bombs first thing this morning because all of the rain we've been having here lately is driving the bugs in, mainly spiders, and I don't like spiders that aren't in a glass tank.

I had two foggers in every room and left the place closed up for two hours like it said. I left a towel outside the front door so I had something to put over my mouth when I went to open the place up and let it air out, big mistake.

I got maybe 5 feet in the front door and took a breath through the towel, panic set in immediately when I realized that entire breath was nothing but bug bomb vapor. I ran back outside gasping for air and ended up vomiting in the grass. It's a worse feeling than drinking too much and getting sick. I thought I'd poisoned myself and was going to die.

After I caught my breath and felt a little better I made a few trips back into the apartment while holding my breath to open a window at a time and get the fans turned on.

I'll probably use the stuff bwozeniak suggested to me yesterday from now on. I'd already had the foggers and didn't feel like returning them or else I would have done it this time. All I know is if I ever resort to foggers again I will definitely be doing a few things differently.

1) I will leave my sliding windows unlocked so I can open them from the outside.
2) I will leave the remote for my air conditioner outside the front door in place of that stupid towel I tried.
3) I will have all fans in position so all I have to do is run in to turn them on and run back out.
4) I will not leave foggers sitting on fold-out chairs in the middle of doorways to bedrooms trying to cover the hallway and room with the same foggers
5) I will not attempt to breath inside of the building even with a respirator when opening it back up.

I can still taste that stuff in the back of my throat and it's been a couple of hours now. I've been drinking plenty of water and I still have all of the windows open and fans on, the place is aired out now.

I tell you what, there's a huge difference between fogging a moving van that you can leave sitting closed up over night and then sitting with the door open for hours the next day VS fogging an apartment you need to get back into ASAP.

Oh man, that was quite the experience you had there! I've used Ortho® Home Defense MAX around my house and it works great. You just spray it around the prermiter of your house in the inside and outside, if possible. Every now and then you'll see a dead bug or two laying on your carpet, but that is much better than seeing live ones! I hate spiders too, and I rarely see spiders in my house due to this Ortho® Home Defense MAX.

Wow, what a story. I feel bad for you. I too, swear by the Ortho® Home Defense MAX. I use it all the time, and no bad fumes, and it's soooo easy to use. I used to use the foggers too at this other house we lived in, and it never did a bit of good, and we had to do all you did, leave for hours, come back and air the place out, only to see another spider crawling around the next day like nothing had ever happened!!

I hope you are feeling better by this afternoon.

I've had a small cough with an itchy and somewhat sore throat most of the day along with a mild headache. I figure these are common symptoms for this stuff and I will probably feel better tomorrow. :D

Those foggers are nasty stuff, I can't imagine what on earth the use other than killing things they're referring to with the label that says it's against the law to use the fogger for anything other than its' intended use. Anyone who would use one of these as part of a gag is probably too dumb to read the warning anyways and there's no way people could be huffing this stuff like like that particular warning phrase is usually used for warning about.

Ouch, sounds like a painful experience you went through. Did it at least kill all the bugs? have you noticed yet?

Next time give that other stuff a try, you won't have to worry about dying with that stuff :)

I've found some dead bugs in the kitchen. There was one really strange mini-mantis looking thing I've never seen before that was still alive though it appeared to be confused and walking around getting ready to die. Hopefully.
I found a gecko on my living room wall that must have come in looking for food when the place was airing out because he was still alive.

Spraying with my own stuff around windows/doors/etc in-between the pest control visits from now on certainly seems like a better idea than fogging. It's a huge hassle to fog and I have that ominous feeling it wasn't worth it.

The throat irritation and headache were gone when I woke up today. I'd forgotten all about them until just now.

I'm glad to see that you are recovered from the fogging experience! I think when you try the Ortho stuff you will be happy with the results.

Those things are definitely not worth the hassle indoors. They're about as effective as sprays but 100x more of a hassle. (I know you guys told me so, I just feel like repeating it lol)

I think I will reserve the foggers for moving vans and sheds I plan on cleaning out from now on.

Sort of offtopic, but not really.

I discovered that foaming bathroom cleaner works great for getting rid of wasp nests and it isn't as harsh as actual bug spray. A quick shot of the stuff and any wasps that got hit can't fly. A few seconds of blasting and they all start falling to the ground.

I don't know if it kills them because this was in the laundry room, they were falling behind the washer, and I wasn't about to stick my face back there to find out, but it made about a dozen wasps fall quick enough and stay down long enough for me to knock down the nest with a broom and get out of there.

That's interesting. What kind of foaming bath cleaner? Any brand that foams?

I would guess so. I'm thinking it's the foaming action that has the biggest effect on the wasps. That foam probably wreaks a ton of havoc on them before the chemical in the cleaner gets a chance to kill them.
I looked behind the washer just now since I'm doing laundry and I saw one dead wasp up on one of the pipes, I can't see the floor back there very well though so I don't know if there's any more.

Here's the closest photo I can find of the stuff I used. It's pretty much the same, but there's more marketing gimmicks on my can.
