How can you tell if you have a common cold or the flu?
The biggest difference between a common cold and the flu or the swine flu is muscle body aches and your stomach being upset. If you have a common cold you will not have body aches and will not feel nauseous. With the flu and swine flu you will have those two symptoms.

Aren't fevers higher in the flu rather than the cold too?

Actually, from what I heard on The Doctors show today, they said the common cold usually does not have a fever associated with it at all. So yeah, the flu does have a fever and the cold does not. The flu includes swine flu too.

The way we always say to tell the difference is this:

If you're lying in bed or on the couch, feeling sorry for yourself and you see a fifty pound note drop to the ground just outside your window, if you have a cold, you'll go and get it. If you have the flu, you just think 'screw it, it can stay there'.

Having had a couple of bouts of flu, I can confirm this theory...
