I never knew that sunscreen needed 20 minutes to interact with your skin before it started to work. That's good to know. Whenever I have used sunscreen in the past I just put it on as I am already in the sun or just about to be in it!

How was your bike ride, Laughing Gravy?

It wasn't too bad at all. The sun had gone in when I got home, so I skipped the sunscreen altogether.

It was the first time I'd been out on a proper bike for ages- I usually use my exercise bike. I used to ride a road bike quite a lot, then replaced it with a mountain bike which I didn't get on with too well - the bike riding just tapered off after that.

However, I've recently dusted off the mountain bike and put some road tyres on it, so thought I'd best start using it a bit while the weather is decent.

I only did about five miles, a fair chunk of which was a long uphill slog. I'd forgotten just how much hard work a bike can be when you're not used to it - much harder than the exercise bike. I guess when the going gets hard on the stationary one I just turn it down a bit, but as I was climbing the hills today, I just decided "Right, I'm not stopping until I reach point x" and it kept me motivated.

I still need to sort out my set up - I think my bars are too low. I like my seat high and bars low, but too low on the bars on a mountain bike and it's none too comfortable... The gears still need attention too, despite my tweaking. It was only a cheapy though, so if I take to riding like I used to, I might treat myself to a new one!

Oh yeah? You put road tires on your mountain bike? Can you tell much of a difference with that? I did a triathlon a while ago and borrowed a road bike from somebody to do the race with because I have a mountain bike. After starting out my training on the mountain bike and then switching to the road bike I could definitely feel the difference... I felt like I was flying on the road bike!

I went on a bike ride for the first time in a long time the weekend before last... The thing that I need to get used to after taking such a long break from biking is getting my butt area used to sitting on the seat! That area sure was sore on me for the next couple of days! :oh:
