Make Your Mind Younger

Brainpower

I was reading online that eggs, spinach, kale, collard greens, blueberries, walnuts, fish, and mustard are good brainpower foods.

Eggs because of selenium. Selenium may make your brain perform as well as someone who's 10 years younger than you. 55 micrograms daily. Example, 1 egg 14 micrograms, whole grain bread 10 micrograms per slice.

Spinach, Kale, Collard Greens - carotenoids and flavonoids in dark, leafy green vegetables can make your mind act like it's younger. 3 or more servings daily can slow mental decline due to aging by as much as 40%.

Blueberries may help protect you from inflammation and oxidation, which age your brain cells, and are linked to Alzheimer's disease.

Walnuts and Fish - The active omega-3 that keeps your brain young is DHA, found in fortified foods or DHA supplements. 600 milligrams daily for repairing your brain cells.

Mustard - Turmeric is a spice in yellow mustard. It helps activate genes that keep your brain clear of waste. Waste buildup can cause inflammation that destroys brain cells. 17 milligrams daily, about a teaspoon of mustard.

That is great and all, but you have to use it or lose it when it comes to brain function. Make your mind younger by doing crossword puzzles and other thinking games.

It is great to eat foods that are good for you, but that is only the gas for your brain... you still need to turn the key and crank it up!

That's a very good point... glad you mentioned it. I think both are extremely important and they definitely go together.

I just read something that says ballroom dancing helps prevent memory loss even more than doing crossword puzzles! This is great... not only will you be using your mind, but you will be active at the same time!

Really?!? I know how to Ballroom dance and you actually do get to be active, especially in the latin dances. Guys don't judge me, my mom made me learn when I was a kid. It is hard to find places to go ballroom dance though, I wonder what is the best way to find a place to go ballroom dancing, besides looking for a retirement center in your area, might be?
