I was reading that asthma, bronchitis, and other allergic respiratory ailments can often be traceable to house dust mites. Apparently mattress vacuuming may work just as well as an antihistamine. Organisms in your mattress prefer to live at the head of the mattress feeding on skin scales deposited there according to a researcher at the University of California Riverside. They are found abundantly in the mattress and less numerous on other household furnishings. The researchers study indicated that twice a week mattress vacuuming can reduce mite populations by 60 to 80 percent.

I might give this a try as I can't seem to get rid of this bronchial cough. We'll see if it makes my cough better.

I like to flip my mattress occasionally since both sides have the pillow-top thing anyways and I don't want to get some sort of body-rut from laying in the same spot all the time. I flip it a different direction every time, except there's an annoying label right in the middle of one end so I try not to put that next to my head.

I needed to change my sheets today anyways, and it hasn't been too long since the last flip, so I sprayed my mattress and pillows with disinfectant like I usually do, but this time instead of putting the clean sheets on a few minutes after spraying the mattress, I vacuumed the mattress and then gave it one more quick spray instead.

I tell you what, I'm glad my vacuum is a canister vac with a hose and wand. I don't know what I would do if I had one of those standup push vacuums.

I just have a tiny bit of congestion left from last weeks cold. I got over this one pretty quick thankfully. I suppose trying a mattress vacuum which only takes a minute or two couldn't hurt. :D

I have a vacuum with a hose attached too, so it sounds like it will be easy to vacuum the mattress. I'm also due to wash my sheets so I'm for sure going to try to vacuum it at that time. Spraying it with disinfectant sounds like a good idea too. Do you think that helps get rid of some of the dust mites?

My mattress doesn't have a soft feel on both top on bottom. The bottom is hard so I can't flip it :( . I wish I could do that though because I feel like my mattress is starting to sink in the same spots. I've had this mattress for about 6 years now so maybe it is time for a new one anyways!

Vacuuming was fairly easy. I wish I would have thought to wipe off the vacuum head before sliding it across my bed though because I ended up having to clean a smudge from a piece of dirt or something that was on the head.

I'm really not sure if disinfectant kills off dist mites, but I know it kills off germs and I was sick last week. :)
In any event, I just do that anyways because it's something I saw my mom doing when I was a kid so I figure it's part of changing sheets.

My mattress is probably around the 6 year old area too, maybe 7. Flipping has probably kept the mattress from having any ruts in it yet. That, and I usually sleep diagonally so my feet don't hang off, not always though. Some nites I curl up on one side because it's cold.

A buddy got a knockoff memory foam matress that was a "full" size I believe 3-4 years ago for $300. The mattress instead of being completely made of the foam, was a regular mattress with about 3 inches of the foam on top. I don't talk to that guy anymore and I don't know how long it lasted (probably still has it), but I remember when he got it and it was comfortable comfortable comfortable. If I'd had 300 bucks then I would have bought one too!

Relative to what it usually is, yes. lol
Once it gets into the 60s I consider that "cold", the 50-30s is "freezing" and the 20s I experienced in Indiana years ago I consider "WTF is wrong with you people!?!".

Well, I finally washed my sheets and took the time to vacuum my mattreess while they were washing. I can't say I feel any different yet, but my mind makes me think I'm sleeping in a cleaner bed :).
