If you are a frequent sufferer of nosebleeds, there are correct ways and incorrect ways of trying to stop them.

Incorrect ways:
  • Stuffing cotton, tissue, or gauze into the nose.
  • Applying cold towels to the back of the neck.
  • Putting a paper towel under the upper lip.

Correct ways to stop nosebleeds:
  • Clasp the nose between the thumb and your index finger and squeeze. Squeeze just hard enough to stop the bleeding, not to cause pain.
  • Breathe slowly through your open mouth.
  • After the bleeding has stopped, sit quietly and lean forward.
  • Do not blow your nose for 3 to 4 hours after the bleeding has stopped.

I've heard about leaning forward to make a nosebleed stop, but that doesn't work for me. I have to tilt my head backwards to make it stop.

Once in awhile... not too bad. It's probably the dry air in the house during the winter months from the gas heat we have.
