Puffy eyes are a normal condition and you needn't worry about it a lot. In most of the cases puffy eyes are just occasional, however you have regular and continued problem of puffy eyes you need to refer to an eye care professional as it can be a sign of other eye problems.

The causes of puffy eyes are fluid retention, sleep deprivation, unhealthy diet, allergic reaction, aging, dehydration, eyelid dermatitis, etc.

One of the most common puffy eyes causes is the uneven distribution of fluid in the area near the head during sleeping. In females, puffy eyes can also be caused due to the hormonal changes during pregnancy and menstruation. These conditions can lead to eye swelling that is prominent and long lasting.

Sleep is a necessary need of the body and eyes. Long uninterrupted hours of sleep can be dangerous for the eyes as it leads to puffy eyes. Various sleep disorders can also cause excessive swelling in the eyes. Oversleeping can also be a cause of puffy eyes in some cases.

Eatables with high content of potassium and sodium salts can be a cause of fluid retention and hence puffy eyes. Unhealthy habits like drinking and smoking can also cause puffy eyes as they weaken the internal functioning of the body, which then affects the eyes. Alcohol lowers the anti-diuretic hormones in the body and causes puffy eyes. Usually, the swelling of the puffy eyes subsides after the hangover subsides.

An allergic reaction can also cause puffy eyes due to sleeping on feather pillows or in some cases on linen fabrics. Some other contributing factors that can cause allergic reaction are food and unhygienic conditions that may cause infections to the eyes.

In many cases, dehydration has been a cause of puffy eyes. Basically, when the body gets dehydrated it starts storing water and that can cause puffy eyes.

Eyelid dermatitis is a skin rash that affects the eyelids and is also responsible for puffy eyes in many individuals. With growing age the skin looses its elasticity and that causes swollen eyes in most of the people in the older age.

Keep eyes healthy you maybe take some treatments such as Drinking a lot of water is the simplest treatment for such people; Practice sleeping in proper postures; Reduce fluid retention by the body, by including diets like raisins and bananas; Choice a perfect pillows for you which aren’t allergic to them.
