Reading in dim light: General Health

Will reading in dim light for prolonged periods of time harm your eyes? Some people say it does, but then others say it won't. Rather than hurt your eyes, I read that reading in dim light may be difficult, uncomfortable and may cause a headache, but it won't harm your eyes...

Wouldn't it be neat if reading in the dark worked like exercising muscles and would help you see better in the dark ?

I think eyes get dry faster when reading in dim light because they stay focused on one spot longer than normal, and when that happens they don't get moisturized as often. Dry eyes are not good.

Yes, that would be nice, it's too bad it doesn't work that way.

Dry eyes are no fun. Whenever my eyes get dried out, it is a very uncomfortable feeling and it effects my vision... It makes things blurrier for me.
