Do you wash your reusable grocery bags ? After every time you go shopping ? If you look for "reusable grocery bags bacteria" using something like Google news, you'll come across a few studies done where they've concluded that reusable grocery bags can be breeding grounds for harmful food-born bacteria.

When I go shopping I get the disposable plastic bags because I reuse them for things around the apartment such as bathroom trashcan liners and reinforcement liners for marinating meats and keeping them in the bottom of the fridge. I don't worry about bacteria with these bags because I throw the plastic bags with meat and other perishables not in sealed containers away as soon as I put the food away. If I don't, my cat will lick them and probably get sick.

I have to say, I've never even thought about washing the reusable grocery bags before. I know people who use them, my mother is one of those people. I'll have to make sure she is washing those bags after she uses them because I've seen them just laying around. It probably wouldn't hurt to get the meats bagged in plastic before putting them in the reusable bags either.

I don't use the reusable grocery bags for the same reason that you don't. I use the plastic bags around the house as garbage bags and poop bags for my dog.

I see a lot of people around Washington State that do use the reusable grocery bags though. I doubt most of those people are washing their bags on a regular basis. This is good information for those people to know!
