What is the Immune System?
The immune system is made up of special cells, proteins, tissues, and organs. It defends people against germs and microorganisms every day. Most of the time, the immune system does a great job of keeping people healthy and preventing infections, but sometimes problems with the immune system can lead to illness and infection. The immune system is designed to defend you against millions of bacteria, microbes, viruses, toxins and parasites that love to invade your body.
The immune system is amazing. When people die, so does the immune system. In a matter of hours, the body is invaded by all sorts of bacteria, microbes, parasites, etc. None of these things are able to get in and invade your body with the immune system is alive and working. The bacteria, microbes, and parasites that take over your body when your immune system dies goes to work until all that is left is a skeleton. That shows how amazing your immune system is to be able to stop that from happening while you are still alive.
