Are you suffering from chronic heartburn? Here is a list of some effective ways that could help reduce your symptoms. - It helps to minimize the intake of certain foods such as alcohol, garlic, onion, peppermint, chocolate, food containing derivatives of chocolate, fried foods, fatty meats, olive oil, and salad oil.
- Check on how coffee affects you individually. In some people it can increase stomach acid, but in others it may not.
- Avoid smoking cigarettes, especially right after meals.
- Avoid lying down right after eating. It can take several hours for the stomach to empty its contents into the intestine. Once that happens heartburn is less likely.
- Avoid eating near bedtime for the same reason as the previous bullet point. You don't want to lie down right after eating.
- Obesity contributes to heartburn by increasing abdominal pressure. Weight reduction could help.
- Tight garments along the waistline or belt also increase abdominal pressure and should be avoided. (At least loosen them after meals)
- Avoid bending over soon after eating. That can facilitate the flow of stomach contents back up into the esophagus.

I've been putting fresh chopped garlic in just about everything lately trying to use up a small stockpile I have. I think I'll have to avoid other things because I really like garlic.

Not so much the garlic with me, but I enjoy alcohol too much to give it up...
