Both! I always thought it was only determined by the mother's father, however, I learned from The Doctors show on TV that male pattern baldness is polygenic, which means it is caused by the genes on both the mother's and father's side. The show also said that early intervention of both oral and topical treatments can help.

It's sooo weird, genetics! My little brother got my mom's shortness and my dad's thinning balding hair, with my mom's widow's peak. I got my dad's height and my mom's dad's full head of hair with no widow's peak! It's like Danny Devito and Arnold in "Twins" :haha:
