Post subject: Exercise is interfering with my TV time!

I have had to devise a plan with myself due to the new season's tv shows. There are like 7 tv shows that really interest me right now, but I know that means a lot more inactivity for my body. I created a schedule that involves matching exercise for tv time and it seems to be working. I realized that I was sitting in front of the tv watching the shows before and after the show I wanted to watch just because I was there. I could take it or leave the others, but all I really wanted to watch was the show in the middle; i.e. "The Office" is the show I really like, but would watch "Parks and Rec" and "The Community" because it is easy to leave it on. I have decided to cut out the filler tv and realized I have a lot of extra time on my hands. I exercise, cook, play and socialize during that time now. I feel like it really improved my quality of life. I am not saying stop watching the tv shows that you really like... just the re-runs you've already seen and the not quite as good spin-offs of shows you used to love. You'd be surprised with how much time you find that you have to do productive, active endeavors.

Tivos and DVRs also help with this issue because if you really can't miss a show, you can just record it and watch it later at night after the sun goes down! It could be a good investment to help stop TV interfering with your exercise and social life. But I do agree that sometimes you do get sucked into watching the before and after TV shows of the one you intended to watch. That's another reason why a DVR could be useful. You'd only record the one you really wanted to watch and then when you go to watch it, that would be it!

I've tried it too on the machines at the gym that have TVs attached to them. I found out that I can't concentrate on my show as well when I am running at the same time! ;)

It just healthy cut down tv time. And you should never been watch tv when you working out. Ok, when you do exercise bicycle you may have watch tv, unless you doing some tabata work or similar. Otherwise i think that tv ruin you workouts.

I know when i have to do my workout later on (i'm doing my workout's home) and my wife watch tv, and if there is coming something interesting it's harder to concentrate.
