Choosing to be active versus sedentary can be just as important to health as anything else we can mention. Being active doesn't mean you have to workout everyday. Exercise isn't the only way to be active. Being active is a mindset. It will be easier to exercise once you get into the active mindset. Being active versus sedentary is making choices to promote movement from your body. It is choosing to take the stairs versus riding the elevator. It's going out for a walk or bike ride versus sitting around and watching TV. Once you start making the smaller choices to be active, choosing to exercise or eat a little better then becomes easier and more sustainable. If you are struggling getting started with an exercise routine, try making smaller decisions in your life to promote being active and exercise might slip right into place.

I started riding to the store instead of taking the bus or bribing my neighbor to go ever since I got my bike.
I traded riding the bike around the park every other day to riding it down to the pier to go fishing once a week or so. I can finally make it up the bridge without having to jump off and walk halfway, at least, before the sun comes up.

I do yard work at my apartment complex even through the landlord has a crew that comes around and does it.
I kinda like trimming the bushes and pruning trees, I don't mow the grass though. lol

I think the key is to start with small steps if you are looking to change your lifestyle and want to get more active. A good small step to start with is to take the stairs rather than the elevator like Y's Guy said.

I know a high level executive that gave his employees special parking spaces 1/2 mile away from the office so that they had to walk and gave them a shoe rack in the office for them to put their tennis shoes in when they get there. I thought it was cool that he knew he would get better productivity out of them after a small walk to the office and it would be better for them too... it's a win-win situation. Everyone bought in to the program and it is a great, innovative small step to a better, healthier life... park in the farthest space you can away from where you want to go. Chose to be active!

I like that story!! What a smart "high level executive" that guy is, thinking how to get better productivity out of his employees, and also caring for his employees health.

I also like what you said about the "park in the farthest space you can away from where you want to go."

i like afternoon brisk walks. i work from home so i don't get out much, except when i go to the gym for classes or training. but that's a car ride away. when i feel i'm stuck home, i make every possible excuse to go for a walk to the store five blocks away. it gets me out of the house, plus it's good exercise.

That's a good idea, to walk to the store for some exercise! It also gives you an even better workout on the way home if you bought some groceries to carry back... I just hope you don't buy too many where you can't carry them all! ;)
