Black Coffee

Evidence suggests that coffee drinkers have a lower risk of developing...

Type 2 diabetes,

Gallstones,

Parkinson's disease,

Cirrhosis,

Certain types of liver, breast, and colon cancers.

Coffee has hundreds of compounds, including antioxidants. In a Harvard University study, coffee drinkers had a lower risk of dying from cardiovascular causes than nondrinkers.

Black coffee is richer in antioxidants than a serving of blueberries, raspberries, pineapples, or many fruit juices.

Coffee might help your mind as much as your body.

Moderation is still best, drinking only one or two cups of black coffee a day, without whole milk, whipped cream, or sugar. Drink much more than that and the caffeine can dehydrate you, or raise your blood pressure.

Pregnant women need to limit their intake, due to the fact that coffee can boost the risk of miscarriage.

If you are worried about cholesterol, stick to paper-filtered and instant coffees. Unfiltered coffees, which are typically made with a French press, contain more of a cholesterol-raising substance called cafestol.
(Yep, I read this from the Readers Digest Magazine)

I think being able to drink in moderation is key. I know there are a lot of people out there who are addicted to coffee. I'm not sure drinking 3-5 cups a day is going to be all that beneficial to you! 1-2 cups is probably a good number.

Yeah, it said 1 or 2 cups a day, no more. Have you ever heard how coffee is good for you, then it's not good for you? I have heard that. They need to get their information correct once and for all. The thing is, every couple of months or more that go by, they have a different story about coffee. They say it's good for you, then the next time you hear on the news, it's not.

I think it is probably the same thing as with red wine, huh? Don't people say having one glass a night is good for you? But then other times, it's not?

Yep, I have heard that too about wine, and many other things too. But I have always heard the same things about fruits, veggies, and the healthy stuff (you know, the stuff we don't eat enough of!!) always being good for us. That never changes. So I guess it's back to the old saying... "moderation is the key" when it comes to drinking coffee, wine, etc.
