If you feel like your metabolism needs a little kick start and isn't working the way it used to, try eating some of these foods for a metabolic boost.

  1. Grapefruit -This can lower the insulin levels in your body that trigger your system to store fat. Plus, it is rich in fiber, and your body must burn extra calories in order to break it down.
  2. Green Tea - Green tea is the main source of epigallocatechin gallate, known better as EGCG. This healthy catechin speeds up your brain and nervous system, causing your body to burn more calories.
  3. Yogurt - The pro-biotic cultures found in yogurt help regulate your digestive tract.
  4. Apples and pears - Your body must burn calories to break down.
  5. Almonds - Their essential fatty acids help raise your body's metabolism. Eat these in moderation.
  6. Coffee - Coffee has caffeine, which gives you a boost. Try to limit coffee intake to less than 2-3 cups a day.
  7. Turkey - This protein-rich meat builds lean muscle tissue, which causes your body to burn extra calories and raises your metabolism.

The process of metabolism involves all the chemical changes that nutrients undergo from the time they are absorbed until they become a part of the body or are excreted from the body.

Metabolism is the conversion of the digested nutrients into components for energy or for building materials for living tissue.
