I'm curious about microwaves. Are they harmful to cook food in? I've heard not to heat plastic dishes up in the microwave, but glass dishes are safe. Is that true? Why is plastic bad?

I've always heard that putting stuff in the microwave kills the bad stuff in food. So if it is a little old and you are not sure if you should eat it, nuke it real good and you should be fine!

I also heard that some plastics in microwaves are bad. They cause cancer.

I don't know if it is true, that's just what I heard!

I have heard that plastics are not recommended for the microwave because they do emit chemicals that could essentially cause cancer.

But I have also heard that there is no evidence that microwaving plastic gives you cancer -- but rather it is just not very healthy for you.
