Super Foods for 2010
I just watched this on the Dr. Oz show today:

  • Food #5 - Imo (looks like potatoes, or are potatoes?!?)
  • Food #4 - Turmeric Tea
  • Food #3 - Mangosteen (tropical fruit)
  • Food #2 - Greek greens (fennel, mustard greens)

And the #1 Super food for 2010 is....

  • Barramundi (fish)

On the Dr. Oz show it said that all these super foods are anti-agers, immune boosters and cancer-fighters.

Imo is a purple sweet potato, eaten by the women of Okinawa, Japan every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!! Guess these women are the world's longest living women!! These purple sweet potatoes are rich in beta-carotene and have 150% more antioxidants than blueberries. If you can't find Imo where you live, the orange sweet potato is similar.
Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that can help fight cancer. You can put this spice in tea and drink daily, again - like the long-lived ladies of Okinawa.
Mangosteen is a sweet, tropical fruit with a thick purple rind inside that you cut open, and inside that is a white, creamy flesh full of vitamins A and C as well as cancer-fighting antioxidants. The juice of the mangosteen is the next best thing, if you can't find the fruit. Available in tea form too.

Mustard Greens are high in vitamin K, which most Americans are deficient in. Mustard greens are good for your blood and bone strength. You can boil them and then toss with a little virgin olive oil and lemon.
Barramundi Fish comes from the coast of Australia. Barramundi fish are free of mercury, and full of heart healthy and brain healthy omega-3s. They say the white meat is light, flaky and delicious.

The barramundi looks a lot like the fresh water bass we have around here.
