The Fruit That Fights Wrinkles

Quote:
You really can fight wrinkles from the inside out. And there's a fruit that can lead the charge.

It's papaya. What makes papaya so perfect? Easy. Vitamin C. Papaya has loads of it, and getting lots of vitamin C may mean more youthful skin - fewer wrinkles and less thinning and dryness. A recent study in women over 40 confirmed it.

The Mysteries of C
Vitamin C is a natural friend to skin. The nutrient is essential for making collagen, the protein fibers that give skin its strength and resiliency. And being a powerful antioxidant, C also disarms free radicals that would otherwise chip away and weaken collagen.

Hmmm, papaya huh? I'm not sure I've ever had that. What does it taste similar to? I found a picture of it.. It sorta looks like a kiwi to me. Has anybody actually tasted a papaya before?

Just about everyone over 40 in Florida seems to have a Papaya tree or ten in their yard. There's a constant battle between Papaya tree owners and neighborhood kids over the trees.

The trees and fruits are fun to play "Ninja" with because of how soft they are. The old folks are always cursing the neighborhood kids for tearing up their Papaya trees.

Of all the years I've lived around these things, I can't remember ever eating one from the tree. I've had them in a can though and they're pretty tasty that way. Very juicy and really sweet. :D

Aren't papayas in the grocery store expensive?? I have never bought any, so I don't know. If you have a papaya tree by you, how come you aren't eating them up???

Most people with Papaya trees in their yard in my neck of the woods would rather give you their first born than sell you their papayas. :)

Come to think of it, I haven't seen a single tree near the appartments I live in now.

Apparently because they know it fights wrinkles ?

I never could figure it out. I always assumed it had something to do with how long they take to grow in relation to how few are on the tree.
You don't get the same behavior from people with orange trees here, most of them will tell random people walking down the road to help themselves so they don't have to pickup so many dead/rotten ones.

Here is some interesting information about Papaya trees in case you are interested in planting some:

  • Papaya trees grow best in hot weather with a lot of sunlight. When you plant the seeds be sure to place them in an area free of shade.
  • Papayas are a short lived plant and the younger ones produce more fruit.
  • Papaya plants need to planted in a well drained area. They are very susceptible to rotting if they are over watered.
  • Papaya plants are extremely sensitive to frost. Grow them in an area where it doesn't get too cold!
