Did you know that there are 3 main types of vegetarians:
  • Vegans eat only plant-based foods. They do not eat any meat or animal products, including dairy products or eggs.
  • Lacto-vegetarians eat dairy products along with plant-based foods. They do not eat eggs.
  • Lacto-ovo vegetarians eat eggs and dairy products, in addition to plant-based foods.
I didn't know that vegans was under the category of vegetarians. Or am I misunderstanding this? I thought it was vegetarians, and vegans, that's it.

I think vegans are under the category of vegetarians because they don't eat meat. They are an more extreme version of a vegetarian because they also don't eat any of the dairy products. So it makes sense to me if they are classified under vegetarian.

I know a few people who are vegetarians, but I don't think I know any vegans. Not eating meat along with any dairy seems like a really hard thing to do!

Yeah, it does seem hard to do... but I guess you "can" get all the nutrients you need from a vegetarian diet.

Be aware that if you don't eat milk or eggs, you need to may sure you get calcium, vitamin D, vitamin B12, and complete protein from other sources!!

Dairy products are good sources of calcium, vitamin D, and complete protein, and eggs are a good source of vitamin B12 and complete protein.

Vegetarians also need to make sure that they get enough iron and zinc.
