Did you know that a whole chicken in a can exists???? I had no idea!

It looks pretty gross to me though and I don't think I'd ever want to try it.

No, I didn't know that, either. I agree with you, it looks pretty gross. I wonder if it's any good though!?! I can see that it says on the can that it's fully cooked, but it doesn't look like it's fully cooked!!

You know what, I have been looking at that picture of that chicken in a can you put there for us to all see, and I am thinking to myself, what is that yucky jelly looking stuff all over it... ewwww... then I just realized, it's just like when you buy a canned ham. Have any of you bought a canned ham??? Well, it's a fully cooked ham, and it's got that jelly looking stuff all over it too. But after you bake it in the oven, ham is good, huh? So, maybe, just maybe, that chicken in a can might not be so bad after all, after you bake it in the oven, of course.

Seriously... maybe it's late but you just made me jump a little as I was scrolling down and saw the chicken! It made me say ewe out loud and think... "Did that can just give birth to a deheaded chicken?" That was about the grossest thing we've put up on HP! But hey... I'd try it once, if I knew it was fully cooked!

They should replace the egg in the "This is your brain on drugs" commercial with that.

I bet this chicken would be a godsend on the last day of a week long camping trip. :D

I just had to check out what that jelly stuff is on that chicken in that can ... and this is what I found off the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) site... it says ham, but it can be chicken too.

GELATIN:
About 1/4 ounce of dry gelatin is often added before a canned ham is sealed to cushion the ham during shipment. During processing, natural juices cook out of the ham and combine with the gelatin. When the ham cools, a jell forms. Gelatin is included in the net weight statement on the label and its presence is also qualified in the product name, for example, Canned Ham, Gelatin Added.

So since geletan is made out of ground up bone powder, it's kinda like having an inside-out-in chicken.

Oh really, is that what geletan is, ground up bone?? Well, guess that's exactly what it would be then, an inside-out-in chicken!! lol At least it comes out of the can down-side up instead of upside-down.

Yep I saw it on "How It's Made" one day.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gelatin
Quote:
Gelatin (from French gélatine) is a translucent, colorless, brittle, nearly tasteless solid substance, derived from the collagen inside animals' skin and bones.

I bet you look at the skin that forms on top of a bowl of Jello if you don't cover it in a different way from now on.

I sure will. Ick!! I bet there are all kinds of food people wouldn't eat if they knew half of what goes into it, or how they process it, or prepare it for the consumer.

I don't eat Jell-O anymore, anyway, and I can't remember why either. I had heard something a while back not to eat Jell-O, and now I just can't remember what it was. But anyway, now I know for sure I won't eat it anymore.

I like to eat up ground bones... it makes me feel manly! Bring on that chicken in a can... it doesn't scare me

Okay, okay... maybe it scares me a little... but I'll still eat because I'm a guy and that's what guys are best known for... eating stuff... especially scary stuff... like chickens in a can and their girlfriend's first attempts at food like meatloaf
