Doctors recommend children control food intake and get more exercise. Most current guidelines recommend an hour a day of physical activity. But a new study of more than 1700 pre-teens and adolescents in Europe suggests kids may need at least 90 minutes of exercise per day. It doesn't even have to be aerobic. Dancing, light play, cleaning and walking all count.

The new Wii Fit counts you guys...

What do you think... is this realistic on a daily basis???

I have just recently realized how my lifestyle choices have affected my kids ... so with my new found look on life I hope to have my kids realize and make better decisions as well.

I think 60 to 90 minutes a day is good.

For kids, exercise means playing and being physically active. It doesn't mean the same thing as it does for adults -- going to the gym and lifting weights or running on the treadmill. Kids are constantly exercising when they have gym class at school, soccer practice, or if they play any other sport. They're also exercising when they're at recess, riding bikes, or playing tag.

Everyone can benefit from regular exercise. Kids who are active will also beneift. They will have:

  • have stronger muscles and bones
  • have a leaner body because exercise helps control body fat
  • be less likely to become overweight
  • decrease the risk of developing type 2 diabetes
  • possibly lower blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels
  • have a better outlook on life
