What would be good questions to ask soccer players? I'm writing an article on my school’s varsity boys' soccer team for our news paper. What would be good questions to ask the players? What would be good questions to ask the captains? And what would be a good question to ask the only starting freshman?

I used to play basketball in high school so I'm trying to remember the types of questions the reporters would as us. Is article going to be about the team before the season starts, during the season, or after it has finshed? That would depend on the types of questions to ask the players. But overall, I would ask the captains questions like how their practices have been going, who they think their toughest competition will be, what they have been doing to prepare, and how they think they will do compared to the previous seasons.

As for the only freshman starter, I'd ask him how he feels about being the only freshman that is starting, if he feels ready for the challenge, and what he has done to prepare himself to reach the varsity level at such a young age.

I was 1 of 3 freshmen to start on our varsity baseball team and I remember that I was asked a lot of questions like:

What do I feel that I can bring to the team?
How have the other players treated you since joining the team?
Am I excited... am I nervous about the season?
What's my jersey number going to be and does that have any sentimental value?
What was the main thing that prepared you to step into this position?

Team Captain questions:

What is the team Chemistry like in the locker room?
What do you think is the key to team success?
What do they feel is their role or responsibilities as team captain?
What has prepared you for the Team Captain position?
Has playing sports helped you in school?
Do you have any messages for the student body?
Do you have anything you'd like to say or suggestions to all of the kids playing in the little league, wanting to be where you are at in 4 or 5 years?

Other questions to ask could be:

If you weren't playing soccer what would you be doing?
How has soccer affected your life?
What does being part of the team mean to you?
Is it tough to balance soccer and school?
What is your favorite memory of soccer?

Good questions, Y's guy. Definitely a great start and, if you get the talkative kids, you should get plenty of material from those two.
