The key to throwing a football is to not flail. The power you use when throwing a football should come from your core and legs, not necessarily your arm. With the practice of the basic steps listed below, throwing a football can become easy!

  • Hold the pigskin with your fingertips on the threads. If your hand isn't fitting comfortably in the middle of the ball, slide your grip back a bit.
  • Cock the ball to your ear and turn your body perpendicular to the receiver while keeping your back foot pointed at him.
  • Step forward with your lead foot and while using the momentum of your body, start your launch. (If the receiver is running, remember to aim where he is going).
  • As you release, snap your wrist so that the ball spins in a spiral.
  • Always follow through so that your throwing hand will end up at your opposite hip, thumb pointing toward your body.

Ha... my power is actually in my flailing! What I don't understand is why my coach didn't let me be quarterback... he said it was because I couldn't run fast... now I think that is a lie because apparently the quarterback throws the ball... not runs with ball... that's a half or fullback! No, I think my coach didn't let me be QB because he discriminated against me because I am left-handed and I recently found out that right-handed people can't catch the ball as easily from left-handed people due to the spin on the ball being different... I guess it's a right-handed world and the left-handed man can't get a break! All joking aside, I wanted to be QB... I was just jealous because I could throw the ball further than anyone... I just couldn't run and we didn't have good receivers.

Rothlesburger is a monster... he is not your normal QB... he is so hard to take down and has good footwork for such a big man... did you see some of the plays in the superbowl where he should have been tackled, but stayed up and completed a 30 yd pass... awesome!

I missed most of the Superbowl this year.
I did catch him trying to bulldoze his way into the endzone towards the end though.
