Hi!

I'm Jill ... I live in Derbyshire, England. I stumbled across this site whilst I was looking for ideas to put on my bucket list! I'm trying to stay as fit and active as I can, and I guess I could probably use some help from you guys.

Hi Jill!

Welcome to Healthy Pals forum. I hope you found some good ideas for your bucket list. Do you have anything on your bucket list that nobody had already listed on this site?

Wow, you live all the way over in England, huh? Is that were you were born and raised? I live in the United States in the state of Washington. Have you ever been to the states?

So what are your exercise habits and your fitness goals? What have you been doing to stay active? I've never been to England before... what is the weather like there? How are the outdoor activities?

Tammy

Hi Tammy,

Thanks for the welcome. The weather here in England? Yuck! lol. It' raining so hard it's almost spiteful! I just walked 4 miles to work (yes, silly aren't I), as part of my keep fit regime. I do this 6 times a week, whatever the weather ... apart from thunder and lightening ... and it really has helped me keep fit.

Yes, I was born and raised in England, in the Midlands, about 30 miles away from Birmingham. I have never been to Washington, but I came over to New York last May for a couple of days, and I absolutely loved it! Everybody was so friendly, and I went a trip to the Bronx to round it all up. Had a few dizzy problems going up to the Top of the Rock though!

The outdoor activities are okay over here, but the weather holds us back a lot. I mean ... it's supposed to be our summertime! Your olympic team is going to be based in Birmingham I think I heard on the news! Far, far better than in London, believe me!

One of my bucket list items is a common one I think, I'm doing a skydive with the Red Devils parachute team on September 2nd near where I live, and I'm kinda scared but kinda looking forward to it to. It should be a huge adrenaline boost! Bit late to start these things, but hey ... who cares!

I did'nt fly on a plane until four years ago, when I was 48, but I went to Majorca and loved every minute of it, so last year I also flew to a friend in Hong Kong new territories, and apart from the mozzies, loved that too! That was on my bucket list.

I'd love to go storm chasing ... that's my biggest bucket item, but we cant do it over here, so I would have to come over to the USA to do that.

Sorry, I'm going on a bit! My short term aim is to get down to nine stone (I'm 9 1/2 atm) before I do my skydive, so I figure if I eat good stuff and not much fatty food, keep up the walking, I should do that in 6 weeks.

Will say bye for now, have to get working!

Cheers

Jill

Wow, congratulations on your plans to go skydiving! I went when I was 17 years old and it was a big adrenaline rush! I am 29 years old now so it feels sorta like a dream and not really like I actually did it. I have pictures though to prove it! Are you going tandem or by yourself? I went by myself and I loved it.

I didn't realize it rained so much in England. I thought Washington was bad. It is summer here right now too, but we are having a pretty dry one. It is about 80 degrees right now and supposed to get to the mid 90's this weekend. There are tons of outdoor activities to do here! I'm sorry it's not the same in England.

I've been to New York. New York is about a 6 hour flight from Washington. It's funny that you say everyone was so friendly there because I remember the people being a lot less friendlier than I am used to over here on the west side of the United States :) .

I think storm chasing looks fun too. I would have to travel to the mid U.S. if I ever wanted to do that too. But I would recommend hooking up with someone who really knows what they are doing, because I've watched shows on TV and it can be pretty dangerous!

Walking 4 miles to work is a great way to stay active! Good for you.

Hello Jill,

Sorry it took so long for me to respond to your post. I just had surgery on my nose (deviated septum). Welcome to the site! September 2nd is when I am taking a group of Seniors from Judson Park retirement community up to a waterfall at Mount Rainier to answer some of their bucket list events too! What a small world... here's to everything working out for all of us! Good luck and God bless!
