I started working out about 2 years ago and have been working out and getting healthier for 2 to 2 1/2 years now and I struggle everyday. I try to eat healthy but find myself eating more and more. I work out sometimes with the idea that if I work out I can eat whatever I want. I struggle with the same 5 pounds I will get on a kick and lose 5 pounds and then tell myself I am doing good and eat again and gain it back. back and forth back and forth. It is a nightmare. HELP me someone break the routine of this. I have issues with a shoulder problem and foot problem so I find myself in pain when I work out but I always push myself to do it anyway.

Trust me Terri when I say, I know what you mean about the yo-yoing effect of weight loss. I guess one of the main things that helped me that might help you is determining what your ultimate goal is. Think about it for a while.

For the longest time I just made short term goals... most of them were focused around weight loss. I would have a goal to lose 20 lbs. Sometimes I would not make it... other times I would and then stop and find myself 25 lbs. heavier next month.

It wasn't until I made long term goals that I was able to get to where I wanted to be. I used short term goals to chart my progress towards the long term goals... and once I figured out what I wanted to be most of all... it helped my willpower to say no to the things that did not fit in with my long term goals, like feeling like if I workout hard I can eat a lot... does that make sense?

Unless being able to eat whatever you want is your long term goal... which wouldn't be totally unappealing ;)

Take some time and think about what you want most of all... picture yourself the way you want to be and start by writing it down...own it... what is it???

Hello Terri,

My name is Junior. I just started working out, but I too deal with injuries. I have a knee problem but I tried to use the sit down bike the other day and I found myself building up a sweat even more than when I try to walk longer distances with the dog! Maybe you should try and rest your foot and shoulder by using the exercise bike, you might be surprised how good of a workout you can get. That's my 2 cents ;) !

Thanks so much for your input and i will consider what has been said and really sit down and make a long term plan. That sounds like it might work. I will check back in a couple days.
Thanks again it really helps.
Terri
