Hi there. My name is Val. This is my first time here . Someone told me about this site on another message board, so I thought I would check it out. I am trying to get started back in to my exercising faithfully. I was a fanatic about it when I was younger, but now that I am in my 40s....... well its just time to have a healthy lifestyle, eating right and exercising. I like what I read so far and I think I can learn a lot from this site and maybe motivate someone else too.

Is there anyone hear over 40?

See ya.

:) Thanks for the warm welcome.

Short-term goals? Well, my goal is to lose 25 lbs. I am 5'8" tall and I should weigh, according to my ideal weight, 163 lbs. My main concern is my health. I have heart disease, diabetes, HBP and breast cancer on both maternal and paternal sides. My mother is diabetic, has HBP, had open heart surgery and made it through breast cancer. She is 79 and is a fighter. My father also was a diabetic. I want to be healthy as I get older. My goal right now is to just start moving. I get to work around 6:15 or 6:30 am to beat traffic. I am an early bird, love the morning time and instead of getting on computer at work I went back out to parking lot and walked. I walked for 15 mins. I even had a couple of ladies said they wish they could join me. I ate lunch and then walked at lunchtime for 30 mins without even realizing it. It was so pretty today. I will take the stairs instead of elevator. I love to walk so why not do it? Laziness I do believe!! I have gotten lazy. Today is Th so walk some over the weekend and start a new week walking in AM and lunchtime. I do pretty much watch what I eat, although need to eat more fruit for snacks. Thats my goal right now and do have plans to go back to gym. I will be reading everyones post to get new ideas and to stay motivated. Thanks Val

I know what it's like to struggle with genes... my parents passed me down some doosies too! We know what is in our family history and have to be that much more aware of what troubles we will face. If you are a morning person and you like getting to work early, have you ever thought of joining a gym close to your work and going before work to beat the traffic?

What are some obstacles you face in working out on a consistent basis, other than laziness?!?

Not everyone is an early bird...that's cool that you are! I wish I was more of one because then I'd for sure go to the gym in the morning and get my workout in. Right now I don't get to the gym until around 4 pm. I usually go after work. I don't start work until 8 am, so there would be plenty of time to go workout before work... if I were an early bird!

Are you currently a member to a gym or are you going to be looking to get a gym membership somewhere?
