Hi Trainers, Ken, Tammy, whoever knows,

My boss and I have been talking about his efforts to lose weight. He currently uses a Nordic Track for 45 minutes a day at medium exertion. I encouraged him to try increasing intensity on the cardio and he wants to add a weightlifting component using light free weights. He and I are wondering what the ideal number of sets and reps is and how often he should lift?

Hi Angee,

That is a good question. You know your boss can sign up to the website too... it's free to everyone! The answer to your question depends on how heavy the free weights seem to your boss and what he wants to accomplish. If he wants to tone medium to light weight, 3 sets of about 12-15 reps... if he wants to build muscle the weight needs to be heavy and 3 sets of 6-8.

He wants to tone and burn fat, so I will tell him 3 sets of 12 - 15 reps.
