Nowadays fitness centers are providing workout equipment with individual TVs attached to them for the user to be able to watch whatever they desire. This can definitely help pass the time while being bored on a treadmill or elliptical machine. I, personally would rather listen to music, but if you are a person who easily gets bored, try one of the machines with TVs! They allow you to plug your headphones directly into them so you can watch whatever you want without disturbing the other people next to you.

I used to be part of a gym that had TVs on each individual machine. I loved it! It would make my run on the treadmill go by so fast. I'm now part of a gym that doesn't have TVs on machines, it definitely makes the time go by slower!

I personally do not like the machines with TV's on them... I like to meet people at the gym and talk... Whenever I watch tv while trying to workout, I always get motion sickness! I think the tv's add a sense of isolation to your workout... I'd rather have an environment of people talking to people rather than people on headphones just being by themselves!

I am sure I am in the minority though, because the machines with tv's on them are always the ones that are full!!!

Yeah, but you can't be real social while you are running on the treadmill! If you are trying to get a good workout in on the treadmill, you shouldn't be able to talk while are running. I like to talk more to people during my lifting part of my workout, rather than my aerobic part! Maybe that is just me though!

Yeah... I agree but a lot of time people are in the cooling off or warming up phase of the workout and seem approachable to talk if they do not have headphones... if they have headphones on it is almost like I don't even want to say hi because I don't want to interupt them.

Even if I have headphones on, I have no qualms with being interrupted.

I don't mind having the overhead TV on, but I'm much more of a music person when I workout, partly because I'm such a people watcher. What better locale to people watch than at the gym? My favorite time of day at my old "Y" used to be during the open basketball time, because I could rock out to my music and watch my favorite sport be played right in front of me. Once a week I usually ended up spending two hours on the elliptical without realizing it.

I like to people watch too! I find that the time goes by faster when I am on the treadmill or elliptical when the 5pm circuit class is going on that I am able to watch, or open gym basketball. When the gym is empty and I have to stare at an empty court, the time goes by sooo slow!!!

I can't watch people play basketball while I workout by myself... I know me... and I know that if I see basketball going on while I am trying to run on a treadmill, I will get off and go play basketball instead of working out; that is why I need a workout buddy to keep me chained to the stupid treadmill, because as much as I don't like doing it at the time, I feel so happy that I did it afterwards!!!

I ran 10 miles per hour for a whole mile yesterday... I was proud of myself!
