You should probably pick a work out buddy that is at your same level exercise wise. Unless you you feel like you need someone to push you harder than you do on your own, then you should get a work out buddy who is just above your level.
I started working out with a friend a couple years ago who was not quite up to my level of working out. I'd run 2 miles and she'd only run 1. I'd want to do 30 minutes on the eliptical, and she'd have to stop after 20 minutes. But only after a few weeks of working out together she was doing what I was doing! Today, she is pushing me! When I want to stop at 20 mintues, she's ready to go all the way to 30 minutes and that makes me go to 30 too! I've noticed when she's not there to push me, I slack off. I love working out with a buddy!
