Always change shifts ahead and not backward. Rotate from mornings to afternoon to night and not in the reverse manner.
It helps your body to cope up with the shift pattern.
Have a good sleep in the day by setting up proper condition for sleep. Darken your room and put your mobile on a silent mode for an undisturbed sleep. Also, tell your friends and family how important is that few hours of sleep for you.
Avoid excessive use of antacids, tranquilizers and sleeping pills.
Learn relaxation techniques that help in healthy sleep.

Have you ever done shift work... I have not. Is it really hard on the body? I have read somewhere that it takes a big toll on the body and takes years off your life!

When you are on night shift do you find that you feel more isolated from people due to most people having day shifts? When I am lonely I usually start to eat more... do you feel that you eat more when you are on night shift? How do you cope with your shift?

No, not the really. My work is on internet so it always keep me in touch with the world. So there is no problem to feel an isolated one. You have told that you eat more when you are lonely, It is not good, we have to maintain the quantity of our food if we wants to be live healthy and strong. I eat such a quantity of food at night that will not cause the acidity at night.

Yeah, I think that has been a major problem in the US for some time now... we have seen food portion sizes get to outrageous amounts. Two people could get full off of 1 serving and yet we still eat more. It is crazy... have you ever seen Super-Size Me? It shows the serving sizes from the 50's and 60's compared to today and it is astonishing... the meals for a family of 3 is about the same size as a single meal today!!!

I am scared for us... We are out of control and the media is just promoting more... It is dangerous and we are in a new era where for the first time in our history that our children's life expectancy is shorter than our parents... that is crazy!

hmm I would agree on learning on relaxation techniques that help you in healthy sleep. I've already done shifting work like before I've already worked for 2 years on a night shift and luckily for me that is a straight one not really on a weekly shifting. Right now I'm on a day shift. It's really hard for me to coup up my sleeping pattern when I shifted schedule. What they did to me is when I usually gonna shift sched they let me take a leave for a day so that I would be fresh working on the next following day for a different shift.

My mate used to work a rotating shift pattern- the day shift one week, then the swing shift, then the night shift. He used to cope pretty well, but I think it would destroy me. I suffer horrendous Jet lag, and I'd imagine shift lag might be similar.

I was doing more research and there are a bunch of studies out there that says shift work prematurely ages people's bodies. It said it was really tough on the mind and overall not good for healthy living.

I usually do night shift work but in the nature of my work, I can also get into morning shift and afternoon shift. In my experience, it's still best doing work during daytime. Night shift caused me more stress like I can't talk to anyone at home or friends except for coworkers who are also busy. The good thing for me (although I know unhealthy), whenever I do night shifts I eat less because I skip breakfast. lol.

I'm glad you recognize that it is unhealthy to skip breakfast! It is the most important meal of the day!

I know I've become reckless of my idea of fitness recently because of time constraint. I skip meals or cut off carbs and proteins to lose weight since I can't afford now to work out, although whenever I have time, I take walks but then they're only good for 10 minutes.

I know you seem to understand it, but skipping meals is not a good idea. You can ruin your metabolism by doing that. What are your eating habits like? What do you usually eat throughout the day?

We eat rice here but sometimes I opt to have bread. Our main dish is usually fish, beef, meat or vegetables.
