Post subject: How to enjoy exercise...

To be honest with you, this was something I struggled with for a long time. I really did not enjoy working out. It felt like work after work only I wasn't getting paid for it. I would do it once in a while or do it everyday for a couple weeks and then burn out. I knew working out was good for me, I just couldn't find any routine that worked for me. One thing I did enjoy was sports. I would play all day, but my body got used to it and I wasn't getting that good of a workout from playing them. I remember workouts for basketball and practicing and getting really tired but it feeling good, yet all I could feel from my workouts was a yucky feeling of sweat and exhaustion... no rush afterwards. I had lost the feeling and didn't know how to get it back.
I was struggling to find something that would work. I tried to step up my sports. That was fun, but I was already used to the activity. I think that in order to get to the point where you get the rush after a workout, you have to shake your body up. Give your body something it's not used to so that you can maximaize the workout. You have to be able to do the exercise so don't make it too hard either; there is a fine balance you have to fing so that you can push yourself and not get injured. I started swimming. This was something I only did recreationally and my body wasn't used to it. I could push myself a little harder in the water than on land because my knees didn't hurt.
I still wasn't feeling that I was getting that rush, but I was going to give it a shot because I have also heard it took about three weeks to start to build up the endorphines. It took about a month before I started feeling the rush again. It was not as strong as I had remembered it, but it was there. I realized that over that month, I had built up enough health and stamina to allow my body to start producing the chemicals required for the rush. That little sensation fueled my motivation to workout. I finally realized how to get the rush back from my workouts. I had to be able to push my body in ways it was not used to. Now I am running 3 miles, lifting weights, tough ab workouts and pushing my limits; it's all due to finding a routine I could work with... and sticking with the exercise long enough to develope that rush a body makes after building up the aerobic capacity. It really does become enjoyable after you get to a certain point.
Has anyone else experience the rush from exercise? What did you have to do to get it?
