You can get your entire daily requirement of vitamin C by taking a supplement, but you can also get the same amount by eating a large orange. Which is better? In most cases it is the orange, the whole food.

Whole foods have 3 main benefits that you can't find in a pill or supplement.

  • Whole foods are complex - they contain a wide variety of nutrients that your body needs, not just one.
  • Whole foods provide dietary fiber - fiber is important for digestion and it helps prevent certain diseases.
  • Whole foods contain other substances important for good health - fruits and vegetables contain food substances called phytochemicals which may help protect you against cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis and diabetes.
