Can AlcoholPrevent Weight Loss? You may just be losing fat and gaining muscle, which is a trend in the right direction, but one that won't show on the scale. And, yes, drinking alcohol can put the brakes on a weight loss program in more ways than one. In the first place, you've got to consider the excess calories you're taking in. There are seven calories per gram of alcohol. A single glass of white wine or an ounce and half of hard liquor provides about 90 calories; a regular beer gives you 150 (a light beer provides about 110). You can almost double the calories in hard liquor if you add a mixer such as fruit juice or tonic water. A typical martini contains 210 calories and a Pina Colada in excess of 300. When you're trying to lose weight, alcohol also works against you because the calories it supplies are "empty" - they provide you with no beneficial nutrients

Don't forget that Alcohol is a depressant too. This naturally makes your body want to slow down. Your metabolism is not immune to the slow down. That's not even mentioning that when you wake up the next day and all you feel like doing is going back to sleep!

You might think that drinking liquor is more diet-friendly because it has no carbohydrates, while both wine and beer do contain carbs. But dieters need to watch calories, and liquor only has a few calories less than beer or wine. Plus, it is often mixed with other drinks, adding even more empty calories. Hard liquor contains around 100 calories per shot, so adding a mixer increases calories even more. If you are going to mix liquor with anything, opt for a diet or club soda, instead of fruit juice or regular soda. Sweeter drinks, whether liquor or wine, tend to have more sugar, and therefore more calories. In that respect, dry wines usually have fewer calories than sweet wines.

Thanks...

Knowing how alcohol affects your body and your ability to lose weight can help you make the right decisions when it comes to drinking. The most important thing to remember is that the only way to lose weight is to consume fewer calories than your body burns daily. It is glaringly obvious that you should count the calories you consume from alcohol, but you still have to watch out for the other effects, as well.

The biggest reason you cannot lose weight while drinking alcohol is because of the constant hunger pangs you feel immediately after or the following day because of your insulin imbalance.

Alcohol basically contains worthless calories. What's worse is, drinking causes you to experience drops in your blood sugar, which in turn, send signals to your brain that you need more food!

Alcohol is like poison. You might love it at first. But no matter how much control you have over it, it will take over your life some day. I choose to go with the normal, hardcore burn fat-gain muscle policy. That's the only way out of this.
