So I'm a geek and subscribe to a daily exercise science news feed and yesterday something really interesting popped up. The National Institutes of Health came up with a mathematical model for individualized weight loss and a fancypants simulator to go along with it. This system takes into account highly personal factors that can make one diet/exercise program work for one person and not for someone else such as how the metabolism can change. Right now they are very careful to say that the simulator is meant as a research tool and not a weight loss guide, so keep that in mind. It doesn't have the necessary safeguards to stop it from recommending very dangerous programs but it's still a pretty cool thing and I can't wait to see the "public edition" of the simulator. here's the full story for anyone that's interested.
